My Kid is Back – book launch with June Alexander

I’m delighted to share that in a special event for Australia’s National Carers Week, Eating Disorders Victoria (EDV) will launch the exciting second edition of My Kid is Back.

This well-loved publication has guided many families caring for a loved one with an eating disorder. It is full of stories from people who have been there.

My co-author, Professor Daniel Le Grange, and I are grateful to families from Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand for contributing to this new book’s powerful message about Family-Based Treatment (FBT). While I help families narrate their stories, Prof. Le Grange explains why and how FBT is the most effective evidence-based approach for children and adolescents with anorexia nervosa.

When anorexia nervosa (AN) develops in a child, it impacts the entire family. The family stories in My Kid is Back, together with first-person reflections from young people who have experienced FBT in their recovery from anorexia, illustrate how FBT offers hope. The method focuses on reinstating fundamental family coping principles―empowering parents and supporting them and their children in overcoming this serious psychiatric illness.

Held onsite at EDV, the upcoming evening book launch event will include a Q&A session with me, an opportunity to buy My Kid is Back, information on EDV’s carer services, plus the opportunity to connect with other carers in the community.

Drinks and nibbles will be provided, with gluten-free and vegan options available.

There will be a door prize on the night for a $100 voucher from Soak Bathhouse in South Yarra.

If you would like to submit a question for me as a co-author, in advance, please do so during the checkout process.

As founder of Life Stories Diary my prime motivation is to connect with people who want to share their story. Why? Because your story is important. My goal with this blog is to provide a platform for you to share your story with others. Building on the accomplishments of The Diary Healer the Life Stories Diary blog will continue to be a voice for people who have experienced an eating disorder, trauma or other mental health challenge, and provide inspiration through the narrative, to live a full and meaningful life.

My 13 books about eating disorders focus on learning through story-sharing. Prior to writing books, which include my memoir, I had a long career in print journalism. In 2017, I graduated as a Doctor of Philosophy (Creative Writing), researching the usefulness of journaling and writing when recovering from an eating disorder or other traumatic experience.
Today I combine my writing expertise with life experience to help others self-heal. Clients receive mentoring in narrative techniques and guidance in memoir-writing. I also share my editing expertise with people who are writing their story and wish to prepare it to publication standard. I encourage everyone to write their story. Your story counts!
