Opportunity to be a recovery mentor – it helps you, too

Opportunity to be a recovery mentor – it helps you, too

One of the many delights upon regaining one’s life from an eating disorder is the opportunity of using our  recovery experience to help others. I have found that through helping others, I also help myself, for I feel fulfilled and purposeful. So mentoring is very much a win-all for everyone in our fight against eating disorders.

There is much truth in the age-old adage of ‘in giving, we receive’. If you would like to become involved in supporting others, I encourage you to heed this call from my friend and colleague, Shannon Cutts:

Dear wonderful recovery friends and colleagues,

We continue to appreciate your support of MentorCONNECT and your referrals (our four year-old community grows by leaps and bounds daily!)
Now we need your help to continue meeting the demand for mentors with new qualified mentor candidates.
We are currently facing a pending shortage of qualified female mentors – while many mentors do apply to serve with us, finding candidates who can meet our service criteria is much more challenging.
Successful volunteer candidates will: be at least 18 years of age, be able to demonstrate 12 consecutive months of sustained eating disorders recovery prior to service start date, be able to commit to at least 12 months of uninterrupted volunteer service.
If you know of female mentor candidates who meet these criteria and would be interested in supporting a recovering person by serving as a volunteer mentor with MentorCONNECT, please send them our way! (Please also feel welcome to forward this email to your greater network or post out via social media.)

With your help, MentorCONNECT will be able to continue to provide free peer mentoring services to recovering women and men worldwide for years to come.
