Self-compassion – with Josie Geller

Aussies have a chance to listen to Josie Geller speak about self-compassion

ANZAED will hold an interactive  “Webinar” by Dr Josie Geller, from the University of British Columbia on 21 March. The extra good news is that this event will be free for all ANZAED members.  The Webinar will involve a live presentation where participants can log in and watch on the web and/or listen via telephone. Full technical details will be supplied later, but no particular technology will be required – just internet access and/or a telephone.

Josie Geller’s tour of a number of cities in Australia and New Zealand in 2010 was very well received. I heard Josie speak in Brisbane, at the 2010 ANZAED Conference. Until that event, I had thought deeply about building self-confidence and self-esteem as part of my recovery process. Now I could add self-compassion. As someone with decades of ED experience, I’ve had the challenge of coming to terms with a life that has been mine, and yet in many ways not mine.  The chaotic, unsettled, living-dangerously part of me driven by the eating disorder illness today seems foreign. Self-compassion has helped heal the scars. I have added self-compassion to my toolbox for ensuring ongoing recovery.
Josie is a most engaging and inspiring speaker – on motivation and readiness to change, non-negotiables, collaborative therapeutic relationships, and managing enduring conditions.
In the past two years Josie’s interests have moved further into the field of self-compassion. She has some research data to present during the Webinair and she will relate developments in self-compassion to other research on therapeutics.
You need to register beforehand via the website and the log-in details will be provided just prior to the event.
