Grandparents can gain freedom from eating disorders too

June Alexander Anorexia Sufferer and Author

Eating disorders occur at every age. Scientists don’t know the specific cause, but latest research suggests genetics plays a sizeable hand…around 50 per cent influence or more.

It’s almost enough to say ‘well, it’s in the family; there is nothing I can do’. Ah, but there is plenty you can do!

Today I had the honour of taking part in the National Eating Disorder Awareness Week series on HuffPost Live: http://live.huffingtonpost.com/r/segment/midlife-eating-disorders/54c2c13e02a7603075000267

Eating disorders come in many forms, with different co-morbidities such as anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, bipolar. Usually they develop in childhood or adolescent, but may appear in adulthood.

At every age, there is hope. At every age, there are people regaining their true self and embracing freedom from the eating disorder prison. Don’t accept only one nibble or bite of the cherry of life; you deserve the entire cherry. You have a right to freedom in your mind; you have a right to be in touch with, to love and care for  your body. Don’t let ED the eating disorder bully you or your family around any longer. Let self-harm be a thing of the past. If you have an eating disorder, or suspect you are developing symptoms, reach out today.
