Hi, I am June Alexander, and I am reading my memoir A Girl Called Tim: Escape From an Eating Disorder Hell.

I developed an eating disorder, Anorexia Nervosa, at age 11. It wasn’t until I was 55 that I regained my healthy self, and my life since then has been super-charged and super-wonderful. My message is everywhere I go that recovery can occur at every age. Never, ever give up.

In this podcast I will read the Epilogue to my memoir, A Girl Called Tim. Here it is.

I have just cried the whole way through your memoir podcast of A Girl Called Tim. I am in my fifties and have been living with this disgusting (eating disorder) secret since about 12 years old. I reached out for help yesterday and was given your name. Listening to you has given me so much hope. I have a doctor’s appointment today which is terrifying me but I just want to be happy and normal and just have a life not consumed with this . It’s a start xx

  2. Dear Jeanine, thank you for writing and sharing your experience. You are being courageous in seeking help and you deserve a full and happy life. Recovery CAN occur at every age. I wish you all the best. I’m sure your message will inspire others who are experiencing eating disorder symptoms, to understand they have an illness, they are definitely not ‘weak’, and to also be brave and reach out for help.
    Warmest wishes, June
